The Derbi range of scooters has been extended with the introduction of the Atlantis, the first of a new family of vehicles. With this model, Derbi has set itself the goal of building it's strength in the 50 cc scooter market. The current GP1 model is a high performance sports scooter covering the more elite end of the market. With the Atlantis, Derbi aims to offer the top model within the "City-Sport" range, aimed at a wider public looking for a practical, powerful and functional machine. And the truth is that the external design has been given the utmost attention, and the result could not be better. The up-to-date lines, elegant, simple and slim, combine into a harmonious whole brimming with personality. The optical units and the instrument panel, too, are a fine example of this character, inspired so clearly, as they are, by the world of the car. Ergonomics have inevitably played a key role in the design, given the character of the Atlantis, since therein lies the foundation of its comfort and riding performance: the result is, then, a light and agile scooter, suitable for every user. The saddle is only 790 mm from the ground, and this bestows maximum effectiveness in its urban-sport role. The design of the Atlantis also caters for the passenger, who is provided with ample space on the saddle and comfortable footrests for support.
The front suspension relies on the traditional tele-hydraulic forks, while at the rear the spring-shock absorber assembly bears on the engine which doubles as the swinging arm. Good braking is assured by means of a front stainless steel disc of 190 mm diameter, with a 120 mm drum on the rear wheel. The whole assembly is completed with a pair of lovely 12 inch wheels, made of aluminium alloy, and with 5 thick spokes. This air-cooled scooter is available in four style combinations to satisfy the tastes of a wide and demanding public: the Atlantis, available in light blue, dark blue and black; the Atlantis Wave, available in silver-black and red-black and the special Atlantis Red Bullet. Brakes Equipment The optical units with the indicators forming an integral part are not only beautiful and very individual, but also houses a very powerful front headlight which lights up a wide field of vision in all circumstances. And it is not only the style of the headlamp which is reminiscent of the automobile: the instrument panel is also modeled on that of a car. It is shaped like a double sphere, and houses the speedometer, the odometer, and the oil fuel reserve and indicator light pilot lights. The list of equipment is rounded off by the addition of a hefty shackle on the underneath of the frame to secure an anti-theft lock. A fuel tank with a generous capacity of 7 liters is situated below the saddle, and the extremely economical fuel consumption of the Atlantis gives it a tremendous range between filling stops. A seat with an attractive line and ample room rewards both the rider and the passenger with a comfortable position, and the passenger also has built-in footrests in the foot platform. The height of the saddle from the ground is a mere 79 mm which makes the Atlantis a vehicle which is very easy to handle, and is therefore suitable for riders both short and tall. The whole concept is rounded off with an elegant finish in metallic paint offered in four different colors, each of which blends perfectly with the overall design of the Atlantis, with its slim and elegant lines. The design has been produced with particular attention to the needs of people who want to get through traffic, while having the most fun. In the Atlantis Derbi has been thinking above all of comfort and practicality. The
engine in the Atlantis is the well-known trusty and powerful Derbi 49cc
power unit, giving 6.5 horse power at 8,000 rpm, sufficient to provide
sparkling acceleration in city traffic. Also with a view to the intended
use of this scooter, special emphasis has been placed on reducing sound
levels to a minimum.

engine. Fuel intake is made directly to the crankcase through a reed valve
fed by a Dell'Orto carburettor with a 14 mm bore. The mixture of fuel
and oil is carried out by means of a centrifugal pump. The final drive
is through a centrifugal clutch and a variable speed drive. Sound levels
have been kept down by means of a generously sized silencer, into which
a lot of work has been put, and which lends the machine an air of great
quality and even of having a higher cubic capacity than is the case.

a vast space for keeping a full-face helmet as well as the fuel and oil
